Find the Artist Within
by Eileen Bergen
The Artful Crafter
Can anyone be an artist?
People admiring my work often say, “I could never do that!” I say, “Yes, you can!”
Eight years ago, during a very difficult time in my career in finance (Downsizings, layoffs – let’s not talk about it, OK?), my company sent me to a development workshop for female executives.
I came out of a particularly thought-provoking discussion group and penned the following very prophetic free verse.
Threads They Said
Mimi said, “Why don’t you paint again?”
I said, “There’s no time. I crunch numbers now.”
Carole said, “You can do it!”
I said, “No. I don’t think so.”
Cheryl said, “You have an artist within. Reach down. Bring it out.”
I said, “My numbers … they pay the bills.
Though, God knows, they don’t feed the soul anymore!”
Martha said, “There’s a strength within you.”
I asked, “They why do I feel so weak, so beaten?”
Bob said, “Reach for the sky. Be your mother’s daughter.
Write poetry. Perhaps the answer lies within.”
I reached. I created. I wrote. I discovered.
The threads came together.
I design tee-shirts now.
On a glorious sunny beach.
I write my musings in between.
And share them with other artists
— like me.
painting1
I didn’t really dwell on these thoughts at the time since I ended up taking early retirement and had no intention of going back to work.
“Threads They Said” got filed away with my other work files. I only unearthed it recently and was stunned to realize how it all has come true.
Except we don’t live on a glorious sunny beach, we live on a mountainside overlooking a beautiful lake – close enough for me! And now you are some of the other artists I share my musings with!
I believe anyone with a creative eye can be an artist. If you know what you like when you see it, you can be an artist. If you know what someone else will like, you can be a commercial artist. You only need to find your medium or craft.

To find the artistic spirit within you:
1. Think about your abilities, not your dis-abilities; what you can do, not what you can’t. Maybe you’re good with the computer. Think graphic arts. Maybe you wield a mean needle. Think of practical sewn items to which you can add artistic touches.
Today with the endless supply of craft materials and kits to get you started, there’s something for everyone – or I should say – something for every artist.
2. Determine your bliss. I once read that if a woman thinks back to what she most enjoyed when she was between 8 and 11, she can identify her bliss. For men, it’s between 10 and 14. They mature later, you know – some women would say never. If, at that age, you were always making “stuff” (doesn’t matter what) and loved having your own crayons (that no one else was allowed – under penalty of death – to touch) and maybe your own set of colored pencils, art and crafting could be your bliss.
If you took particular joy in actually producing something – an end product – rather than just messing with all those neat (or should I say, messy) paints, you almost certainly have an artist within.
3. Browse a local crafts superstore or Internet crafting sites (please start by browsing around TheArtfulCrafter.com!). Go up and down the aisles, whether virtual or real, and see what appeals to you. Purchase a few kits. [Aside: If you intend to sell what you make from the get-go, be sure to consider what will also appeal to your future customers.]
4. Don’t be afraid to try something new. To me, a sub-definition of artist is “someone who is always trying something new” – new techniquesFind Article, new media. You have little to lose – the cost of a kit or a few tubes of paint – and very much to gain!

Today I’m going to buy sunflower oil. I’m imagining a small glass vial filled with viscous, tinted liquid. The color of Versaille’s gates on a bright morning, a glass of Bordeaux white suffused with light from the setting sun, Loire Valley hills blanketed in fields of the plant from which the oil is derived. An onlooker looks at the painting as the expression of the heart and soul; it transmits cultural messages and the mysteries of the universe. It is born out of the desire of the artist to represent the forms of nature and man through the spirit of the artist as he perceives his world. As now a day artist are representing their skills, ideas by putting them on web for all to see but also easier to sell a painting.

The first thing you notice on entering a room is Paintings and Wall Art Prints hanging on the wall for the purpose of Wall Decor. An impasto effect in a painting is a wonderful thing to observe for all. The color and depth used for this purpose gives tremendous beauty and this makes Paintings as the first thing you notice on entering a room for its aesthetic and artistic reasons associated with it.
Paintings have always been a great status symbol in modern society and because of this it can be quite normal to the casual viewer. For many the first impulse is to blow it off, to see it as a worthless plaything for the rich and boring. This happens to be Old School thought, not only because painting can be a great source of pleasure in our lives, but because even a passing acquaintance with art and painting can enrich and deepen our understanding of the world around us.

On entering the rooms you one notice is a painting and once you’ve got an overall look at the it, asks yourself “what’s this art picture depicting?” Or maybe what is the subject o the painting? The subject might be landscape, an abstract painting or a scenic art but all these have a strong impact on the ambience and the thinkers mind. Some paintings won’t have a subject-much of the work of the 20th century is abstract modern art, playing with form and color and even the quality of the paint than representing reality.
So if you would want visitors to your office, home or a business place to look at the expression of art they can be found over several different websites who are representing skills of different artist from which you can easily find out different and beautiful paintings on different subjects like abstract painting, wall art prints and many more. Buying art to please the onlooker and convey a strong message is a modern day trend which has more aesthetic values associated to it.
When you walk into a room, the first thing you notice is the wall art or we can say paintings or prints of paintings hanging on the wall. The way one decorated their walls is a powerful means for the visitor to judge the kind of believers and culture one belongs from. Let us say, you walking into an office that holds a beautiful religious painting of a Hindu god, in a quick judgment you can realize the roots of the people to be that form India or Hinduism. The same can go for African Art Paintings, Pop art paintings being used for wall decor which gives a glimpse about people who share the space.

Thus in a sub-conscious mind
, it is the habit of a human being to look at the wall paintings and prints as soon as you enter a room or an office.

Fine Art & Collecting Information At Your Fingertips
The information resources available to every single person in society are now far more comprehensive than they have ever been before, thus facilitating the whole host of opportunities and advantages that are available out there for this generation to capitalize on. The standard of education is also higher than it ever was before and that can only be a good thing. In terms of fine art, there are a number of resources that any individual can turn to as and when the need takes them. There are publications and other sources of information that can offer advice about collecting, tips and hints, and give you plenty of material to research anything that you would like to know. This can especially be useful if you are looking to invest in a piece of art but do not know where to look!
There are several sources that can provide this information on fine art and collecting, all of them equally as useful with their advantages and disadvantages. Different mediums suit different people though, so it is up to you which one of the following you choose to consult when you are in need of advice!
Books – Any good library will have several books on fine art and fine art collecting that you can tap into as and when necessary. Books can easily be considered as one of the best resources available because none of the other mediums are anywhere near as comprehensive as books can be when educating people about the fines arts. There are books out there on every single genre under the sun as well as the nature of art collecting, and so any piece of information that you need can be found somewhere in amongst the various pages! This may be a big help if you are thinking about investing in painting, for example, that you doubt the authenticity of. If the library does not have what you are looking for then the massive bookstores online and offline probably can. There is a massive range of books available and if you cannot find the one you want anywhere else then you can always find it online – guaranteed!
Magazines – Magazines differ from books only in the fact that they have interviews with artists, are not as large in terms of the scope of each individual issue, and are regularly available via good newsagents and subscriptions alike. However, art magazines are essential in keeping you up to date with all of the latest news in the art world and information about fairs and lectures that you may be interested in.
Internet – The Internet has a whole host of information available to dealers and collectors alike. There are literally masses out there, but you do have to be careful with the reliability of some of the information because it is not always 100% accurate. The specialist and official art websites are excellent resources though and can reveal lots of lovely information that you would never have known otherwise. All you have to do is use a search engine to find those sites and then bookmark them so that you can easily get back
to them any time you like.
Gallery/Museum – The people working at galleries and museums are usually especially knowledgeable about art and can refer you on to someone who will know the answer to the question you ask if they do not know themselves. They will usually be only to happy to help you so it is certainly worth stopping to have a quick conversation with them if you need to know something and prefer to talk to a person than read or spend time searching on the Internet.
As you can see, there is a wealth of information out there and the can certainly help you to find out what you need to know. These sources can also help to build up your knowledge of collecting art, thus turning your hobby into a passion!

A Guide to Professional Styles and Techniques in the Art of Digital Wedding Photography
When people get sentimental, they usually flip albums and look at the pictures that depict the things that happened in their lives. These pictures are not simply pieces of colored papers with images for they can trigger deeply-seated emotions. Emotions vary depending on the memories attached to these images seen and preserved.
One of the moments that most people would really love to preserve is the tick of events on their wedding day.
For this reason, people even decide to hire professional photographers to capture the important moments of their lives. However, these photographers may not always advise the client to strike a pose. They are expected to wait patiently to be able to catch memorable portraits. Most photographers that are employed for weddings have assistants so that they can maximize their strategy in creating an album that will not regrettable.
What if you would also want to take pictures of a friend’s wedding?
Here are a few basic techniques and styles for anyone who wants to capture the said event using a digital camera:
1. If you want to take a picture of a couple or any intended target, make sure that the background is good and the environment is not so crowded.
2. If there is a nice background but it is hard to focus on the couple, you may shoot them from shoulder up.
3. If some of the guests are wearing glasses, they can be advised to stand tilt their heads a little down or sideways to avoid the glaring effect that normally appears when the flash is used.
4. If there is a couple or a group that you wish to include in the picture, you should zoom in or out of the picture.
5. You must not shoot a couple or any guest against the light so that dark images will not appear
6. Candid shots are also dramatic. These portraits reveal more than the quality of the picture itself. In fact, many professionals do this to capture intimate and memorable moments.
7. You should be alert at all times since you can seldom ask individuals to pose
again for you.
8. Your digital camera should be equipped with appropriate memory cards or sticks to ensure that no great moment is missed.
In other words, you have to have an extra memory card especially when you want more moments to preserve. The following suggestions should be considered before buying a memory card:
a. for 3 mega pixels – a 256 MB memory card
b. for 4 mega pixels – a 512 MB memory card
c. for 6 mega pixels – 1 gigabyte memory card
9. You are not advised to use low resolutions if the images will be displayed and
hung later.
Just always remember that the higher the resolution utilized, the larger the size of prints that can be made.
10. Keep a copy of your best works so you can use and reuse the techniques that
made your viewers smile and appreciate your creation more.
You can do this by saving albums on your personal computer to free up the space in your memory card. You may also use other software to enhance the quality of the prints to be made.
Photography is truly a wonderful art. Wedding is a wonderful event. The union of these things will trigger emotions and memories in the long run more so if images are captured and preserved well. They all depend on your camera and your love for this art and the couple.
